Mini Flippers Practice begins on Monday, June 19, 2023 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:30am - 11am
The Mini-Flippers program prepares young swimmers to move up the regular swim team. Mini-Flippers practice with the team's coaches three times a week and are welcome to attend all team functions. A Mini-Flipper may move up to the regular team at any time during the season at the coaches' discretion.
The Mini-Flippers program is NOT a replacement for swim lessons. The Mini-Flippers program is designed to prepare young swimmers to participate in regular team events.
Mini-Flippers requirements are that the swimmer: 1. Is between 4 and 8 years old. 2. Can float on their stomach with their face in the water. 2. Can jump into deep water (over their head) unassisted. 3. Can swim half the length of the pool (12.5 meters) unassisted (and ideally an entire length). 4. Wants to be in the water. 5. Can take direction from the coaches.
By the end of the Mini-Flipper season the coaches hope swimmers will be able to: 1. Float unassisted on their back. 2. Understand proper freestyle breathing (side breathing or rolling method). 3. Begin to learn the basic elements of backstroke and breaststroke.
Swimmers are screened by the coaches on the first day of practice. If a swimmer is not ready for Mini-Flippers at this time, the coaches can make arrangements for private or small group swim lessons through the pool management company or with the Flippers coaches. In the event that a swimmer is not ready for Mini-Flippers, the registration fee will be refunded.
Swimmers are to bring a goggles and a kickboard labeled with their name to each practice as we will not be sharing equipment this season. A parent or caregiver should plan to remain on deck during practice in the event that their child needs assistance.
Please contact the team rep at [email protected] with any questions. Our goal is a fun and productive season for our youngest swimmers.
